Runner at 1st Base – Standard Bunt Defense
Runner at 1st Base – Standard Bunt Defense
With a runner on first base, and the defense in a standard bunt defense. The first baseman charges to field bunts on the right side, while the second baseman rotates to cover first base. The third baseman charges to handle bunts on the third-base line, and the shortstop covers second base. The pitcher is responsible for bunts straight ahead, and the catcher fields anything in front of the plate while directing traffic. Third base must not be left open — depending on who fields the ball, it will be covered by the pitcher, catcher, or the third baseman. This coverage keeps all bases protected without altering the infield alignment.
